This presentation was a summarisation of everything that I have read, looked at and made in my ESP2 project, Agnate. I included contextual research as well as artists and I talked about other feedback that I have got so far from tutors and from my portfolio review.

Points made by Nick and Jim:

  • Look into using the moving image, but try making is slower so that it lasts for longer, or consider reshooting so that you have parts of the beach with no people in it.
  • Find screens for the work, three separate. Uni photostore.
  • Keep going with the work.
  • Push Rowan and Jack and the power dynamic.
  • See how are you can go with the work, how far you can push it.
  • Keep going with the idea of physical contact and touching, RESHOOT THE WORK WITH THE HUGS, FACE TOUCHES, AND CHAIRS.

The feedback from the work was very positive and encouraging, I feel that the work is going in the right direction and I am interested by my research and feel that my contextual work is really helping my visual work. In the feedback from both Nick and Jim, they were mainly saying that I needed to continue making the work and continue researching to enhance what I am currently making. I am having a lot of positive response to the moving image however I myself am currently unsure of how I feel about it. I feel as though I would want the moving image to be secondary, almost as a hint of work, setting an atmosphere but not the main focus. I spoke to Nick and Jim about what Maja Daniels said in my portfolio review, about testing the power with Rowan and Jack, and pushing the shooting process to see how far I could go with them, and they agreed this could be an interesting dynamic to the research, and perhaps result in some interesting images. I also feel that this relates to my previous research into Pixy Liao’s Experimental Relationship, as she pushes her boyfriend in her photographic practice in ways to show the power dynamic in their relationship. While in my relationship with my brothers, they are the more dominant, I am interested to see what would happen if I tried to represent the relationship in the opposite way. I will have a think about the types of things I feel would be interesting to push with them, but I will also have to consider what they will actually do.
