Favourites so far and Review

So far, I have been very happy with the work I have made. Initially I was shooting in a way in which that had a documentary style, however the work has progressed into being more staged, which the images of the face holding and the self portraits. Inspired by Pixy Liao the self portraits I feel were an interesting way in which to represent a loss of identity, repeating the poses the the staging of the image to make both myself and my brothers all look the same. I am also really liking the neutral colours with clothes and lighting. I began using on location lighting, then after looking at various photographers I started using sunlight, with a focus on windows and beams of sunlight.

Theme

The work is still about my two older brothers, about personal identity with having two brothers, the way in which identity can be lost when you are overshadowed by siblings. Particularly the way in which the dynamic works being the only girl. I am also interesting in the intimacy of a hug, which has progressed into me thinking about the discomfort of physical contact between siblings, which has become the photographs of the boys touching each others faces. I am really happy with the way that this is going, I think that there is a feeling of sensitivity and silence within the images that represents the way in which my brothers and I don’t face our issues, we never talk about things. Perhaps the ones with the face touching could represent silence as it almost feels that the person is being controlled and is having their mouth closed.
